Introduction

We should always strive to recognize the importance of both training and the development of competence throughout our organisation as a key ingredient to the ensuring a successful aviation operation.

Training plays a key role to ensure we can meet the goals and aspirations of our organization, training is also able to support positive change in knowledge, skills and attitude, to deliver the skilled manpower which is essential to manage the oversight and ongoing development of our business.

Mandatory/Vocational?

Within our aviation environment a certain amount of training may be considered as an obligation to meet for example regulatory requirements delivered as initial or recurrent training – Whilst mandatory training is a requirement it is but a small part of the overall training that is available.

Vocational Training can provide the employee with the opportunity to improve performance and is shown to have a direct connection with motivation. The individual performance of employees together with their personal development in particular through training become major factors in supporting the development of long-term profitability.

In an ideal scenario, training should become part of the corporate culture. When employees feel they are fully supported by their management they are motivated to provide both attention and commitment to the task of learning.
